Nadhi Shodhana Pranayama - Alternate Nostril Breathing
Nadhi Shodhana Pranayama or Alternate Nostril Breathing is practiced to purify and clear the mind and body. By alternating the breath from one side to the other we bring a sense of equilibrium to the right and left nostrils (as we tend to favour one side over the other) and also to the right and left hemispheres of the brain, balancing out our masculine and feminine energies. Similar to the Anulom Vilom breath that we have practiced in previous videos (see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7e63yRN98rI&t=269s) however, in Nadhi Shodhana we add a hold after the inhalation.... Watch and follow carefully - all will be explained :) This breath - Reduces stress - by taking us into our parasympathetic nervous system. - Infuses the body and mind with oxygen - Supports a strong immune system - Can help with allergies and respiratory issues. Breathing Meditation (12.30 mins)
In this breathing meditation you will learn to master the breath through very simple counts. You may find you can breathe longer than these counts but be disciplined with this count system and if you want to try longer breaths then try some of my other videos listed below. When we are truly connected to the breath, we are fully present. Our body then begins to move into the parasympathetic nervous system and starts to let go of the cortisol and stress hormones it had stored. The body will then flood with the good hormones and endorphins such as oxytocin, serotonin and dopamine. In this state it is impossible to feel anxious or stressed. We also build strength in the respiratory system which helps our immune system to operate more efficiently. Please do SUBSCRIBE it really does help me to bring you more content. Kapalabhati Pranayama - Shining Skull Breath
One for the weekend and everyday of the week for that matter! You will LOVE this one. It's a favourite in most of my live classes. [People with heart disease and pregnant women should avoid this one.] Kapalabhati Pranayama or Shining Skull Breath. Pretty much does what it says on the tin. It stimulates the brain cells whilst cleaning your brain! An ancient yogic technique, it is also considered to be one of the Kriyas in Hatha yoga, a Kriya being a cleansing or purification technique. Meditation for Love and Kindness (Meditation for anxiety as heard on BBC Radio London)
This meditation was originally created for BBC Radio London's 4pm Meditation on the Jo Good Show (Where you can currently join Jo and I everyday to meditate with others around the world!) - you may well have practiced this one before. Give it another go and see how it feels. It is a short meditation that allows you to release anxiety and stress. We do this by acknowledging your emotions and then remembering the emotional response in the body to the "good feeling thoughts". It's a deep surrender to what is, and a lovely way to strengthen your connection with your inner being and others around the world. Breathing for Strong Lungs tutorial - Viloma Pranayama.
Viloma Pranayama is an ancient yoga breathing technique designed to strengthen the respiratory system and boost the immune system. In this guided tutorial I will take you through the main steps for Viloma 1 (interrupted inhalation) and Viloma 2 (interrupted exhalation). Recommended for beginner - advanced.
